Pitch feedback pt.2

pitch feedback

pitch - costume (shianne)

Costume

The main character has an outfit. Here, it shows she is going to wear a collared shirt, a navy blazer and a light blue check skirt.
This is meant to show she goes to a private school, therefore showing she is from quite a wealthy family.
She dresses herself well, because her shirt, as shown, will be tucked in her skirt.
Her outfit is also good color coordination.
Her outfit is going to be ironed and looking fresh
We chose the color navy to suggest her as upperclass/royalty (blue blooded)

The Pitch - Task 14 - Technology skills audit- Michella

Throughout the course I have used the Mac and the software on it such as Garageband and i was able to learn how to use it and create and add a score to a movie title sequence. i have also used motion and was able to make a company ident and a moving title opening. Lastly I used Final cut pro and learned how to edit clips into a storyline. I feel confident about using these different types of software and will be able to develop my title sequence by sing them.

The Pitch - Technology Skills

Since starting Media Studies; I have learned to use a variety of different technologies, both hardware and software. A few of these being:

  1. Final Cut - allowed me to practice editing clips, it will help me on my project as it will allow me to edit my footage filmed.
  2. Camera Components - knowing all the camera components allowed me understand how to film, this will help my project as I will be able to film without any issues.
  3. Garage band - allowed me to combine sounds together to make a soundtrack, this will help my project so I can make my own soundtracks to associate with my project.
  4. Mac Computer - Allowed me to use software's on the mac, this will help my project as I will use it for editing my project and using it to store all my ideas and clips.

Final Pitch Presentation- attached

The pitch- technology skills audit

I learnt how to use technology such as Garageband, Motion, Final cut and also how to use the camera its components. Garageband allowed me to edit SFX and music into MP3 format. Motion has allowed me to understand how credits work. Final cut has allowed me to practice editing film shots. The camera has allowed me to create many shots. Each one has contributed into helping me grasp a clear idea of how I will piece together my final title sequence.
Through out this piece of coursework, I have been mastering my use of Mac computers. I have developed a deeper understanding of the way the hardware is set up. Also have used video drives and other devices that connect to the mac.

The pitch - Technology skills audit

I have learned to use camtasia and it has helped me and my group edit and cut videos. This has helped us develop our project because it has given us a rough idea of what we should do when we edit our actual title sequence.

iv'e also learned to use mac computers (hardware) more efficiently. Iv'e learnt different shortcut keys so its easier for me to make blog posts on blogger.

The pitch- Title credits- Rhiana

Title Credits

Our title credits will be in this order:
-Distribution Company title "Hazel Pictures Presents..."
-Production Company title "A film by RVMS Studios..."
-Title "ENDZ"
-Actor 1 "Vivian Vu"
-Actor ( others )
-Casting By "Shianne Robinson"
-Music By "Michella Adetunji"
-Producer
-Director

They will appear by sliding in and then sliding back out of the screen to match the fast pace tempo of the film.

my idea- Rhiana

For the actual title sequences, the idea is to show the difference in upper class London to working-class London and how life is going to change dramatically for Zarina. The first could of shots will show parts of Chelsea. Then the film title will be shown while a train is passing in the background. Then the shots continue from Chelsea and move onto Shoreditch and then the estate. The last shots will be her taking off her headphones and looking at the block.

The Pitch: Risk Assessment - Vivian

Location:

Due to our genre being youth drama, we have to film in urban areas, risks we may come across when filming in these areas is the safety of our equipment and props. Examples being, our camera and tripod. We can lower this risk by ensuring there is always more than one person with the equipment when out filming. We also chose the locations according to how safe they are so that the equipment are safe.

Cast & Crew:

Another problem we may encounter is if a member of the cast or crew are unable to make the shooting, this will be difficult to film having a cast member or crew unavailable to film. We can resolve this problem by ensuring that everyone is available to film on the day and if they cannot to reschedule it to another day. Moreover another solution to this is having an understudy.

Weather:

British weather is very unpredictable, this is a problem as we are handling expensive equipment and due to the unpredictable weather, it could rain at any moment and ruin the expensive equipment. Furthermore if we are filming the same scene but on a different day the lighting maybe be different due to the unpredictable weather. To over come this problem; we will bring an umbrella to ensure the equipment is dry at all times. Moreover we can resolve the issue of lighting by checking the weather forecast before the day of filming to see what days will have similar lighting's (ie. sunny days and gloomy days) .

The pitch- Sound design - Rhiana

Sound
(Rhiana Letts)

The diegetic sounds that will be used in our title sequence will be:

- The noise high heels make when someone is walking
- The sound of the music through the headphones
- Train noises

These sounds are going to be used to connote the idea of her lifestyle changing. It will also make it easier for the audience to understand that she is traveling and in the style of a teenager which follows the stereotype of how teenagers travel on public and listen to music. These sounds would be made on garageband to give better sound quality.

The non-diegetic sounds that will be used in our title sequence will be:

- A soundtrack that has been added to soundcloud

The lyrics include descriptions of the girl and the lifestyle she lives. it also creates an urban atmosphere.

The Pitch: Audience Detail - Vivian

Our core target audience for our title sequence for 'ENDZ' is a female teenage audience between the ages of 13 and 18. As it is a youth drama, the target audience would be in a lower social class, this is because from previous research we found that people in the lower class may feel as though they can relate to youth dramas.

Our wider target is young adults both genders between 20-25. We have chosen this age group as we feel this group of young adults will maybe reminisce being this young or they may have younger siblings who are around this age group.

The pitch (task 7) mise-en-scene: Location & setting - Shianne

In our title sequence, we will use a range of locations in London.

We have visited the following locations;

Shoreditch - we chose this location because shoreditch has a lot of graffiti, which shows the area is urban. we will portray this location by showing wide shots of graffiti around about the middle of the title sequence because the areas the main character is travelling transitions from good to bad along side her mood.

Robin Hood - we chose this location because it is a working class area. we will portray this location by using it as the place our main character doesn't want to go to.

Chelsea - we chose this location because it is quite a wealthy location, so we made it the hometown of our main character. we will portray this location by showing it at the beginning of the title sequence, where her mood is good because as well as the area. This will soon descend as the areas change.

The Pitch (Task 8) mise-en-scene: Props, costumes, makeup etc.- Shianne

The props we intent to use are

Headphones - The pink beats headphones depicts the main characters personality. Beats are expensive, and they have pink jewels on them, therefore showing that she is wealthy and girly.

Suitcases - We will show the main character pulling her pink leather suitcase as a cut away shot to show us again, that she is very feminine and she is going somewhere far for a long time.

phones- there will be a cut away to her phone because she will be listening to pop music on her way to try lift her mood. We chose an iphone because it does again show her wealthiness.

trains- We chose trains to contrast her lifestyle to an average working class person. She would then stand out from everyone else on the train because of her bright pink suitcase and the way she is dressed. This foreshadows her lifestyle later on into the film.

Parks- In the beginning, the main character walks through a beautiful park to get to the train station. The park shows her mood in the beginning at happy and lively. By the end of the title sequence she would be in a dull area, where her mood drops.

block- This will be shown at the very end because that is the main characters final destination.

the costumes we create for each character

in the title sequence there is one character. Here is her costume;

The Pitch: Task 4 - Representation - Vivian

The main character will be introduced in our title sequence. She will represent  the stereotypical upper-middle class. Stereotypes being ( according to research on yahoo answers)

Upper-middle class (teens): Stuck up, Spoilt, Wealthy, Goes to cricket games and horse races, wears expensive clothing, lives in a well-known/wealthy area (ie. Kensington)
To represent her social group in our title sequence by tracking her walking to emphasise the setting ad her clothing. By having the camera track the setting and her costume, this will highlight to the audience the  class of our main character

Moreover we will represent the lower class through characters. For example we will represent typical youths from poorer parts of London, from research, we found that they are usually dressed in baggy clothing and wear caps.

The Pitch - Task 5 - Michella

Institutional Detail

a. Our film will be an independent production as in our sub genre which is youth drama it is very common.

b.We would like Film 4 to help us distribute our film as they have worked with many youth dramas previously.

c. As it is an independent production you would expect to see more company idents at the beginning of the title sequence and we will conform to this in our title sequence by including other production companies along with our own..

The Pitch - Task 3 - Michella

What sub-genre of Teen Film is it and what themes will feature in it?

a. Our teen film will be the sub genre of youth drama. A teen film that has a similar plot to our title sequence is the film Wild Child that was made in 2008. An American teenage girl is moved to England to attend her late mothers girls' boarding school. Instead our character moves from a posh area to an urban area and she will also face similar trials to the character Poppy in Wild Child such as fitting in but will face more mature themes like drugs and abuse. The mature themes are similar to the ones used in Honeytrap and many other youth dramas.

b. We intend to conform to these openings as we feel it be best to follow the conventions of previous title sequences and make ours in the same way but adding our own ideas to it.

The Pitch - Task 2 - Title Sequence - Michella

What type of title sequence is it?

a. The title sequence we intend to use will be stylized.

b. A title sequence that has influenced our choice of stylized writing is 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU as it is stylized and has movement.

c. We intend on conforming to the conventions seen as it allows us to be stereotypical and that allows a comedic effect.

29- our sounds diagetic and non-diabetic sounds - Michella

The 4 following songs that we have decided to possibly include in our title sequence are not copyright as we found them through creative commons which has given us a range of songs to use. We feel that the song as a remix will fit out title sequence.

We also include some other sounds like cars and train sounds, and also dialogue

Institution
(Rhiana letts)

Our initial youth drama film would be an independent film as it would be made up coming people in the industry e.g producers, directors and actors. our distribution company may be companies such as UK Film council and other film festival as our budget would be small. We could also sell our film to youtube so that viewers would pay to watch our film on youtube.

The UK Film council have distributing films such as Kidulthood.

Pitch : Task 1 - Michella

What is the title of your film?

The title of our film will be called ENDZ we came to this conclusion as our film is partly based on regional identity, the film sub-genre we chose is youth drama so the name fits in well with the youth aspect of the film. Instead of spelling it correctly it ends with a Z as it makes it appear more urban and the main characters name is Zarina.

What's the treatment? (Opening sequence)

Our film is about an upper-middle class girl who is 16 and a apprears to be a 'spoiled brat'. She is sent to live in a lower class area with her Auntie. She experiences a new lifestyle including new relationships, break-ups, drug use and overall struggles to fit in. The beginning of the film we see a worm's eye view of her shoes then she begins to walk, stops, then takes her phone out of her pocket and her headphones. She scrolls throughout her playlist, puts on her headphones and the song playing from her phone is the song that plays from the rest of the title sequence.

building the character - finding the main characters name

In the process of finding the main characters name, we have an idea of the title called 'ENDZ', but with an emphasis on the 'Z' because the main characters name will start with a 'Z'.

we have then concluded, after going on babynames.com/name/z, that our main characters name will be Zarina.

When your done to save it, select 'export movie to disc' and rename the chosen new soundtrack.

18. Using motion

Conventional Order of Titles

From previous research, we found that the conventional order which titles appear in is:

  1. Production Company Ident
  2. Distribution Company Ident
  3. Distribution company title ie. 'Walt Disney Presents'
  4. Production company title ie. 'A film by Marvel Studios'
  5. Actor 1
  6. Actor 2
  7. FILM TITLE
  8. Actor
  9. Actor
  10. Actor
  11. Casting
  12. Costume
  13. Music
  14. Edited By
  15. Producer
  16. Director (Always Last)

Despite this being a conventional order for title sequence, different types of films such as independent films may have more company indents in order to show the various  sources of money for the budget of the film. This is because they have less money therefore they have to receive money from different companies. Moreover may have fewer titles, this is because they have fewer big named stars and also a smaller cast due to the budget.

18. Using motion

How to use Motion

1.Click on the 'Motion' icon.
2.Press continue when the option is on 'start with template.

Independent Films to have more production and distribution company Idents and less for other factors like casting, costuming etc.

where as Mainstream films tend to focus on the actors and people who were involved in production.

19. Using Garageband

Garageband

 First click onto Garageband.
When this appears click onto movie.

When this appears click in on the macintosh hd icon in the top right corner and then click onto resources. From resources find and click teen drama films.
From teen drama films choose either high school or youth drama. I chose youth drama and the title sequence for Juno.
When you have chosen your desired title sequence, drag it onto the Garage band page.
 Then delete the existing sound.

Click on this icon to access the loop.
Click on your desired sound and drag it into the centre into a separate tracks.

This is what I have produced for the title sequence of JUNO.

How to create soundtracks in Garage band

Once you open garage band you will be asked to choose what type of sound track you want to make, in this case; I am creating a sound track for a movie.

Once you have chosen your type of soundtrack you will be asked to name the file/soundtrack. Moreover you can change the tempo of the sound track here.

In this case I want to create  soundtrack for a film already made. In order to make a soundtrack, I would have to open the film/clip in the existing folder and drag it into garage band.

I am making a soundtrack for the clip, therefore I do not want any already existing sounds from the clip itself, to remove this sound you have to select the orange sound below the clip and press the delete button on your keyboard.

In the right bottom corner there is 3 buttons, by selecting the first button it allows you a selection of sounds and instrumentals to help create your sound track.

there are thousands of sounds and instrumentals you can choose from, here I have chosen a sound i have wanted.
To add this sound to the clip, you have to drag your selected sound and drop it under the clip, to extend the sound you have to drag the clip from the right along to however long you want the clip to last.

To add another sound track and not ruin the already existing sound you have to drag and drop it below the already existing sound.

To save the clip with your newly made soundtrack (on a mac) you have to select share in the top left  corner and select 'export movie to disc' then you can save your new clip.
