Blogging Feedback 3

At this point, there are 3 things that I can do to improve my work;

  •  Putting multiple images into a slideshow presentation
  • create more individual reflective blog posts
  • Putting the rough copy of our title sequence onto the blog with reflection

3 media texts that has influenced me

Wild Child - Poppy

The main character from the title Zarina, was inspired by Poppy Moore from the film 'Wild Child'. The character, Poppy, portrays typical conventions of a rich and snobby teenager. She wears designer brands and looks glamorous throughout the film. Our character Zarina was influenced by Poppy Moore because of her costume and attitude. We wanted to challenge the typical stereotype of rich and snobby characters only being in high school drama's by putting a character as such in a youth drama.

Honey Trap

Honey trap inspired our film EndZ as it is has a similar storyline of a girl from a small town moving into the urban area. Moreover it is a youth drama with a female as a main character. Most youth drama's have a male as the main character and this contradicts the typical conventions of youth dramas. Our film differentiates from Honey trap as our film has less drama and violence than this film, it is less explicit.

Clueless - Cher (Costume)

Our costume will be inspired by Poppy from Wild child because of her glamorous style however because it is set in London we wanted create a costume to portray that it is a British film. We will do this by recreating Cher from clueless' famous costume of her tartan blazer and skirt.

3 films that inspired our title sequence

1. High School Musical - Sharpay

Our main character is a snobby rich girl experiencing more grotty places of London. She reminded me of Sharpay from High School Musical a lot because the character is meant to be high classed, nice clothes and looks good. She is not happy if she doesn't get what she wants , and thats why she was sent to her aunties house in Robin Hood.

2. Mean Girls - Regina George

Regina George from mean girls is also spoilt and mean. She is also upper classed. She is dressed colour coded on the front cover in baby pink and white, and our main characters colour coded clothes were blue and white, so she has been an inspiration of clothes for our main character.

3. The breakfast club - Claire

Claire from the breakfast club is very girly and trendy. In the title sequence, she was forced to go detention on a saturday and was not happy when she got out of her parents car, and thats how our main character feels during the entire title sequence on her journey to her aunties house. Claires emotion in the beginning inspired our main characters emotion, and it did fit really well.

blogging task 10. target audience research

Target audience research

Why is audience research important for production planning?

Audience research is carried out to find out the taste of your audience.

It is useful to target a particular audience and gain specific feedback to ensure the production is successful.

Audience research is primary research.

Research can be done through questionnaires
This is one i personally customised.

The target audience for teen dramas can either be for teens 12-18 or young adults 21-35 depending whether its high school or youth dramas

My results came back as people under the age 18 preferred films with strong language and violence, and the title sequences do have an impact on how they think the film would be.

blogging task 9. who makes the title sequence?

There are separate people who make title sequences to the actual film.

Jim Capobianco is a writer, director and storyboard artist.

A graduate of the California Institute of the Arts, Jim started in the story department at Walt Disney Feature Animation on The Lion King. After five years of storyboarding films like A Bug’s LifeToy Story 2Monsters Inc., and Finding Nemo at Disney, Jim relocated to Pixar Animation Studios where he contributed to the stories of many Pixar’s films of the past 15 years. In 2008, Jim was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Ratatouille. He went on to write and direct the short film Your Friend The Rat, found on theRatatouille DVD, winning the 2008 ASIFA-Hollywood Annie Award for short films. He followed YFtR up by directing the critically acclaimed end titles forWall•E. In 2009, he finished  Leonardo, his first independent film, now in the permanent collection of the MoMA NYC, and incorporated Aerial Contrivance Workshop, an animation thinktank.Currently, Jim is on the pre-production team of several Pixar features and he is creating a Leonardo game and the second Leonardo film.

blogging task 8. What is genre?

Genre - A style or category of art, music or literature.

Teen drama films - A type of drama series with a major focus on teenage characters

Disney produces teen drama films like high school                                  musical

This would effect the title sequence because its audience is aimed at a younger group (aged 6-14)

So then the font would be a more friendly font like

Also, the colour scheme would be more of a brighter colour

Teen drama high school title sequences would always be different than other title sequences because it always relate to high school some what whether if its the transitions or the font.

Favourite film title sequence analysis: The shaw shank redemption

The title sequence first is on a plain black background and fades in and out in the following order.

They use a contrasting colour code in black and white, the the words stand out a lot more.

They use an old font, all the capital letters

It then fades into the first scene of the film, which is outside of his home.

The title sequence then continues while we are introduced to the first scene.
The camera then zooms out

We are then shown the main characters face
We are now shown important objects in the film to understand what is going on

It then jump cuts into the main character in the courtroom, showing how those two situations link up in some way.
The music stops and the judge starts talking to the main character, showing that now, the film is starting.

The song being played is;

If I didn't come by the ink spots

Rough Editing - Rhiana, Michella

On 5/2/15, We went through all of the film shots we made over the two days. We also started to piece together our rough copy of the title sequence. this is mainly to establish what order the shots will be in. We also discussed whether we needed more shots.

Photos from Day 2

On 4/2/15, We went to South Kensington to film the beginning of our title sequence. We mostly got close up shots of our main character which fit in with the narrative. We had to also gather other establishing shots of this area to contrast with the other area we chose to film (Blackwall).

Photos of Day 1

As a group, we filmed the last part of our title sequence. We decided to not include Shoreditch as one of our locations as we found places near Mile End that included the type of graffiti we were looking for. We had to dress according to the type of characters we were playing and film many establishing shots and mid shots of our main character.
